Continuous discovery

Mad Paws

Ongoing management • Start Oct 2021

After reading Teresa Torres' Continuous Discovery Habits, I introduced Continuous Discovery (CD) at Mad Paws. Like many startups, Mad Paws faced the challenge of having product and design decisions heavily influenced by leadership intuition. We wanted to change that—to empower the entire company to make smarter, more informed decisions.

With CD in place, we ensured 1-5 interviews were available each week with owners or sitters. Product Trios could pick these up to fuel regular learning, testing, and insights, creating a steady rhythm of discovery and progress.

Search Algorithm

Mad Paws

Q1-2 FY23

By combining user empathy from research with insights from search behavior data, our team of three set out to optimize the algorithm for better sitter and owner matches. Through multiple iterations (some far better than others!), we fine-tuned search performance, leading to a projected revenue boost of over $1M AUD.

Login & Sign up flow

Mad Paws

Q2 FY23

In a focused push to optimize conversion, I teamed up with fellow designer Emily Chan to reimagine the login and sign-up flow.

We updated the UI to align seamlessly with the design system and incorporated modern UX and tech practices. Inspired by PayPal and others, we implemented an email-first approach, allowing the system to identify whether users needed to log in or sign up—making the process smoother and more intuitive.

Launched dinner bowl kibble

Mad Paws

Q3-4 FY22

About six months after launching Dinner Bowl (DB), we decided to create our own Kibble product.

I helped design and build a high-converting landing page using Unbounce, ensuring it aligned with the fresh DB branding and resonated with our audience.

Unfortunately, Mad Paws had to shut down Dinner Bowl, including Kibble, due to the high costs of scaling. While bittersweet, it was a valuable learning experience in product development and brand strategy.

Dinner Bowl lightly cooked landing page redesign

Mad Paws

Q4 FY21

One of my first tasks at Mad Paws was improving the UI and UX of the landing page. I kicked things off by conducting user interviews to better understand customer needs and sales preferences, then used those insights to guide the design process.

There was a conversion increase of 35% with the new design.

centrelink claims revues

PwC

Q1-2 FY21

As a strategic designer, I joined a team tasked with improving accuracy and empathy in identifying fraudulent claims following the Job Seeker and Job Keeper policies.

My contributions included creating service blueprints that mapped how Services Australia managed various support types and flagged potential fraud.

Through interviews, we developed user archetypes and journeys, providing a clearer understanding of how process changes impacted real Australians and ensuring human-centered solutions.

APVMA internal software and ways of working

DXC Technologies

Q4 FY19 - Q1 FY20

As part of a consultant team of four, we spent three months embedded in the APVMA office in Armidale, NSW. During this time, we engaged with nearly everyone in the office to understand how different departments operated, their key collaborators, the challenges they faced with current software, and the gaps in functionality and processes that hindered cross-team alignment.

Using these insights, we designed and built a custom product that centralized all workflows across the regulatory body, seamlessly aligning with their new operating models, processes, and procedures.

Expedition Escape Rooms

Late 2016 - Mid 2017

Partnering with the business owner, I helped design and build an escape room.
