Schools needed new mobile-friendly portals for students, improved tools for trainers to organise classes, systems that met rules and regulations, and platforms that kept employers updated on their staff's learning progress.

The problem: From complex to tailored
TAFEs and universities have strong but complicated systems made for administrators. Teachers with specific needs in attendance and tracking study progress often resort to temporary fixes because current tools are not designed to support their main tasks.

Focussing on users
Working with three major TAFEs, several smaller Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), and people from diverse education areas, we examined the needs of users and institutions from the perspectives of trainers, students, and employers involved in training and apprenticeships.
Using a step-by-step development process, we quickly set the main goals for each portal (Trainer Portal, Student Portal, Employer Portal) and started designing and testing solutions that balanced user needs with what was possible, time limits, and budget.
